Summer 2021: Need to evacuate horses, livestock or pets because of wildfires in British Columbia?
Here’s where you’ll find a list of documents compiled to help you.
Need a place to house your animals while you are evacuated?
Here’s a list of offers of housing for livestock and pets, that has been carefully compiled by Tasha.
SPECIAL THANKS TO TASHA LEEPART
For the last 5 years Tasha Leepart has been one of the admins of a Facebook group dedicated to helping evacuate horses and other livestock during times of crisis – and she has more times than we can count saved the day, because she’s been the one who has kept lists of generous offers for free hauling by volunteers and professional haulers.
Tasha has also compiled lists of where those in need can go with their horses and other animals, where their animals can be housed and fed, while evacuated. As generous citizens of B.C. and even Alberta have stepped up to say, “I can help house and feed evacuated animals”, Tasha has spent countless hours documenting and compiling those offers.
She’s given up time with her family and friends, been up early, stayed up late, gone without sleep more tmes than any one can count, and no matter what she’s always calm, cool, and collected, with a smile on her face.
Thank you Tasha for this labour of love and for all that you do for so many. Those in need of evacuating horses and other animals during times of crisis in B.C. would be lost without you.
Also deserving of special mention (and so much more)…
Wyneeta Ohms who has more times than I can count dropped everything to help in person and online with evacuations, care while evacuated, and long after others have forgotten about fire, Wyneeta has helped with rebuilding after fire seasons.
Chris Neumann who this summer is a first time dad, has like Tasha and Wyneeta for years now, given up time with family and friends and on more than one occasion gone without sleep to help those in need during times of crisis in B.C. He too has done boots on the ground work more times than I can count.
Not to be forgotten Maggie Ferguson who for 40 years has raised funds and collected food donatons year round for pets in need. Maggie has graciously given up so much this summer to help those requiring assistance evacuating with animals.
Last but certainly not least, Kelly Kennedy of Sageview Ranch in Kamloops, BC who has not only volunteered as an admin this summer, but who has once again this summer, as in years past hauled countless numbers of horses and other livestock out of harm’s way, at great personal risk and expense.
Kelly like every one mentioned above has other obligations including a job. Yet in addition to hauling, virtually every waking hour this summer (going without sleep for days on end), Kelly has fostered evacuated animals (a hundred or more at a time) at her ranch. AND this is NOT her first summer doing so.
Tasha, Wyneeta, Chris, Maggie and Kelly, you truly are extraordinary. It’s been my honour to work along side you all. Thank you for being you. ~ MDB xo
