Horse Rescue Fund is dedicated to raising funds to purchase hay and other feed and to help offset veterinary bills for equine rescues and sanctuaries in Canada.
Horse Rescue Fund also recognizes the need, especially during these turbulent times, to help individuals who are trying to do the right thing but struggling to care for their equines.
There are many cases where what might end with a beloved horse or other equine being euthanized, sold, or relinquished -- and even ending up being slaughtered for human consumption -- can be prevented by, for example, the purchase of hay or the payment of a vet bill by Horse Rescue Fund.
In addition Horse Rescue Fund supports efforts to help (evacuate, vet, stable, and feed) equines during disasters including wildfires, flooding, mudslides, earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
Once it's safe for equines to be returned home, Horse Rescue Fund is dedicated to helping fund the transport of equines home -- and if need be help provide replacement hay/feed and fencing.

A FEW OF THE ORGANIZATIONS & EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
YOUR GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE HELPED
CANADIAN DISASTER ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM
Proceeds from our May 2023 BC based 50/50 cash jackpot raffle were gifted to CDART. We thank them for the phenomenal work they do.
SECOND CHANCE CHEEKYE RANCH
Proceeds from two of our British Columbia licensed cash jackpot raffles, one in March of 2023 and the other in April of 2023 were gifted to Second Chance Cheekye Ranch.
Since November of 2016 Second Chance Cheekye Ranch in Squamish, BC has rescued over 200 horses and rehomed over 160.
RHINESTONE HORSE RESCUE RANCH
Proceeds from our Alberta licensed cash jackpot raffle for March and April 2023 were gifted to Rhinestone Horse Rescue Ranch after the director Laura Watson broke two bones in her leg — when a horse she was tending had a stroke and fell on her.
The ranch is home to 45 rescued horses.
Hurricane Fiona was a large, powerful, and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane which was the costliest and most intense tropical or post-tropical cyclone on record to hit Canada.
After passing Bermuda and weakening to Category 3 intensity, Fiona quickly transitioned into a large and powerful extratropical cyclone and early on September 24, 2022, struck Nova Scotia with sustained winds of 100 mph (155 km/h). Prince Edward Island and parts of New Brunswick and Quebec were also negatively impacted.
This is an emergency where we had boots on the ground — we were able to offer physical assistance — but unfortunately, we had precious little in reserve to help out financially.
THANK YOU to board members’ families who came forward to help with weeks of in-person support and to those who provided financial donations.
5 FREEDOMS RANCH 2022
Founded 10 years ago 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue and Rehabilitation Society, located in Strathcona County, Alberta, Canada currently has 90 horses, donkeys and mules in their care.
5 Freedoms takes in surrendered animals and volunteers directly with the City of Edmonton to care for seized livestock.
A portion of the proceeds of our January/February 2022 50/50 Jackpot Cash Raffle was used by Horse Rescue Fund to help purchase hay for equines in the care of 5 Freedoms Ranch so they can continue the amazing work they do.
THE ALICE SANCTUARY 2022
Founded in 2014, The Alice Sanctuary is a vegan farm animal sanctuary that provides care and healing for over 200 rescued, surrendered and abandoned farm animals including horses.
Drawing from the resiliency and life-affirming presence of the animals who live at the sanctuary, the goal of The Alice Sanctuary is to empower, encourage, and inspire visitors to find the tools they need to go out and make a positive change in the world around them.
Proceeds from our September/October 2022 raffle were gifted to The Alice Sanctuary.
BC WILDFIRES 2021
Yet again, the summer of 2021 was a catastrophic one for many horse & other animal owners.
In addition to locking arms with other organizations and individuals, and providing free, volunteer, 24 hour support, for two and a half months, to those having to evacuate with equines due to wildfires in British Columbia, Canada…
The individual board members of the Horse Rescue Fund provided money to help with everything from fuel for volunteers hauling horses, out of harm’s way, to hay and veterinary care for the period equines were evacuated.
Moving forward the plan is to help raise funds to pay for hay, boarding and vet care, for equines in distress and displaced during disasters.
DEVASTATING ACCIDENT
In a perfect world Horse Rescue Fund would always have the money needed on hand to help with cases like this one…
An accident left a family’s main bread winner in a wheelchair and resulted in a desperate need for help to feed their beloved 6 horses.
Help with purchasing hay for the winter was needed or the horses were to be dispersed to end up who knows where.
Thanks to YOUR generous contributions and sharing of this need, Horse Rescue Fund was able to purchase hay to feed these horses through the winter, which helped this family to be able to keep their beloved horses.
BC FLOODS 2021
Just when we thought we could take a bit of a breather after a wildfire-filled summer, disaster struck again in British Columbia, Canada.
Unprecedented flooding — or the new normal? Either way, calls came in for help from horse owners in multiple parts of the province.
YOU rallied to help – and purchased hay to feed equines while displaced and in distress.
This is just one example of why we founded Horse Rescue Fund.
BEAR VALLEY 2021
Bear Valley Rescue was founded in 2004, registering federally as a charity in January of 2005 and provincially as a society in 2008.
A portion of the proceeds of our December 2021 50/50 Jackpot Cash Raffle was used by Horse Rescue Fund to buy hay for Bear Valley Rescue.
Again, this is just one example of how your contributions, your raffle ticket and t-shirt purchases are used to help equines in need.
Thank YOU for your support.
ACTOR KATE DRUMMOND DONATES
T-SHIRT SALES SUPPORT HORSE RESCUE FUND
We should say actor Kate Drummond contributed yet again, this time to Horse Rescue Fund’s “Skip a coffee. Feed a horse” campaign.
You may recognize Kate from the long-running CBC TV show Heartland, or from video games like Blacklist, Splinter Cell and Tom Clancy’s, the Division…
But we recognize and love her because in addition to regularly contributing funds to help horses in need, Kate is incredibly gracious about sharing information about the same on her social media accounts.
Kate from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! 😘
ECO & VEGAN FRIENDLY PRODUCTS PROCEEDS SUPPORT HORSES IN DISTRESS
If you haven’t already become a fan of the WIDE VARIETY of eco-friendly products offered by this Canadian-based company – with worldwide shipping – then let us fill in a few blanks for you.
The product that was the first to put this company on the map… Ultra-concentrated, hypoallergenic, eco-friendly cleaning laundry strips, pre-measured strips of detergent – that you just toss in the wash. No muss, no fuss – NO big clunky plastic bottle.
Think your laundry needs are too much for this product? We were skeptical but we threw horse/ranch “barn clothes” & “saddle pads” at it and it not only worked, it also outperformed our former favourite products. YET, it’s gentle enough for our hand washables and baby clothes, and again hypoallergenic.
AND now there are so many more products including an amazing toilet cleaner.
Oh, and did we mention that in addition to ALL KINDS of eco-friendly products — when you use our link, you don’t pay any more than you would anywhere else for these products and Horse Rescue Fund receives 20% of the purchase price?
Your $5, $20 and $40 (and larger) contributions continue to go a very long way to buying hay and other supplies for equines in need.
We can’t do what we do without your help, and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
We’re hoping that your generosity will continue and that you’ll continue to contribute so that we can say yes to buying hay to help equines in need.
Again, from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
